Punta Campanella

At the tip of the Sorrento Peninsula you will find Punta Campanella (Point Campanella), a geographical formation that stretches until the island of Capri.  In December, 1997, the Ministry of Environment designated this area a Marine Life Reserve zone due to its natural, historical, and scenic significance.

Its terrain is extremely rugged, alternating between barren and sun-exposed slopes and deep valleys. The coastline is characterized by limestone cliffs, at times steep and rugged, especially on the south side, and at other times gently sloping towards the sea with numerous inlets and small bays that offer the visitor views of natural beauty.

In this wild and seemingly inhospitable environment, an extraordinary rich flora actually exists.  Near the sea, there are sparse dwarf shrubs, typical vegetation of the garrigue, and further inland, typical Mediterranean maquis with Myrtle, Rosemary, Juniper, the holm oak and the wild strawberry.  In the spring and summer, there is a wonderful array of colors as blooming flowers cover the land while the fragrance of aromatic herbs such as Lobularia maritime with its characteristic honey fragrance and fennel and rosemary fills and wafts through the pure air.

“I Giardini di Cataldo” owns a piece of land in this wild and unpolluted place, Punta Campanella.  We pick naturally-grown wild plants such as myrtle and fennel seeds for production of our liqueurs with their simply unmistakable unadulterated flavor and aroma.
